Simplified Controls in Fighting Games

While I don’t totally agree with the sentiment that only ‘garbage people’ care about whether motion inputs exist, it’s telling that the argument has carried over to other genres.
While Jack-O’ would end up subverting this in her Strive rework, I would argue that a kit with only quarter circle inputs is still pretty easy to grasp (even if the tools themselves are complicated.)
DNFD has two special move buttons. The S button features one-direction special moves, and the MS button has optional motion inputs that let you reduce the MP cost of those moves.
I use the dash macro in GGST all the time. Getting my microdash on the earliest possible frame makes links much easier. As I-No, it also prevents accidental air throw attempts when I want 66j.D, and that’s not even getting into how it makes drift RC a breeze.
On the other hand… being able to use the block button as a cancel let you pull off some advanced techniques like Homing Cancelling and Pokken’s equivalent of IB, so who’s to say that it’s all bad?
